Calorie Calculator
Work out your basal metabolic rate (BMR) and your total daily calorie need (TDEE) from your activity level.
Daily LifeResult
Your daily calorie need (TDEE)
2,514 kcal
- Basal metabolic rate (BMR)
- 1,622 kcal
- To lose weight
- 2,014 kcal
- To gain weight
- 3,014 kcal
How is it calculated?
Choose your sex, weight, height, age and activity level. The tool first works out the calories you burn at rest (BMR, the Mifflin-St Jeor formula), then multiplies it by your activity level to get your total daily calorie need (TDEE).
Formula
Men: BMR = 10×Weight + 6.25×Height − 5×Age + 5 Women: BMR = 10×Weight + 6.25×Height − 5×Age − 161 TDEE = BMR × Activity multiplier
Example
Sex: Male · Units: Pounds and inches · Weight: 155 · Height: 67 · Age: 30 · Activity level: Moderately active (3–5 days/week) → Your daily calorie need (TDEE): 2,514 kcal

Frequently asked questions
How many calories should I eat to lose weight?
A common rule is to eat about 500 calories less than your daily need (TDEE), which is roughly half a kilogram a week. That figure is shown in the result.
What is the difference between BMR and TDEE?
BMR is what your body burns completely at rest (breathing, your heartbeat and so on). TDEE adds your daily activity on top, for your real total calorie need.
Is this medical advice?
No. The result is a general estimate from a widely used formula; talk to a dietitian or doctor about your own nutrition decisions.
How do I choose my activity level?
Think about how often you exercise: a few light sessions a week is “lightly active”, regular intense training is “very active”. If you're unsure, picking the lower level is the safer guess.
