How is it calculated?

Enter your weight and height (kilograms and centimetres, or pounds and inches). The tool calculates your BMI, says which range of the World Health Organization's adult scale it falls in and shows the healthy weight range for your height.

Formula

BMI = Weight (kg) ÷ Height (m)²
Healthy range: BMI 18.5 – 24.9

Example

Units: Kilograms and centimetres · Weight: 70 · Height: 175 → Body mass index: 22.9 kg/m²

Does it apply to children and teenagers?

No. This scale is for adults over 18. For children and teenagers BMI is judged against age and sex percentile charts; ask a doctor.
