Your monthly savings target
$600
- Needs (50%)
- $1,500
- Wants (30%)
- $900
How is it calculated?
Enter your monthly net income. By default, 50% goes to needs, 30% to wants and 20% to savings or paying off debt (the commonly known “50/30/20 rule”); you can change all three ratios yourself, as long as they add up to 100%.
Formula
Each category = Income × category's share ÷ 100
Example
Your monthly net income: $3,000 · Needs: 50% · Wants: 30% · Savings and debt payoff: 20% → Your monthly savings target: $600

Frequently asked questions
What is the 50/30/20 rule?
It's a widely known budgeting guideline suggesting 50% of income for needs (rent, bills, groceries), 30% for wants (entertainment, hobbies) and 20% for savings or paying off debt. It's a guideline, not a strict rule.
Can I change the ratios?
Yes. You can change all three ratios however you like, as long as they add up to 100%.
Does this ratio fit everyone?
No. Where you live, your family situation and any debts you have might make a different split more realistic; this tool is only a starting point.
